TOEFL iBT SPEAKING

TOEFL speaking:
repeat precisely, answer fully.

In short: The updated TOEFL Speaking section takes about 8 minutes and has two task types. In Listen and Repeat you repeat seven sentences from a campus or academic scenario exactly as you hear them, with 8–12 seconds to record each; the sentences get longer and more complex. In Take an Interview you answer questions from a simulated interviewer about your experiences and opinions.

Key takeaways

Listen and Repeat

A scenario (for example, welcoming visitors to a zoo) gives the purpose. After each sentence there is a pause, and you repeat exactly what was said, only once.

Take an Interview

  1. Answer the question firstOne clear sentence that answers exactly what was asked.
  2. Give a reason"…because…" with one specific point.
  3. Add an exampleA short, real experience makes your answer natural and longer.
  4. Wrap upOne sentence that links back to the question.
